64 LED SMD Dot Matrix Advertising Screen – DIY Soldering Practice Kit

Level up your electronics skills with this hands-on 64 LED SMD Dot Matrix Soldering Practice Kit by LOTHYE. Designed for electronics enthusiasts, students, and hobbyists, this fun DIY kit lets you assemble a fully functional 8×8 dot matrix display that scrolls and flashes numbers 0–9 in a countdown sequence — all powered by a pre-programmed microcontroller.

Made in Mainland China.

How the Display Works

The kit uses a row-and-column scanning method to drive 64 individual 0805 SMD LEDs, capable of displaying any 64-pixel character or number. Once powered on, the default boot sequence runs as follows:

  • Vertical line-by-line lighting
  • Full-screen flash (×2)
  • Horizontal line-by-line lighting
  • Countdown display: 9 → 0, then repeat

Want a custom display? Simply connect your own control signal via the JP1 interface (without soldering the included microcontroller) to show any content you like.

What's Inside the Kit

  • 64 × 0805 SMD LEDs
  • 8 × Row drive transistors
  • 8 × Current limiting resistors
  • 2 × Serial expansion chips
  • 1 × Pre-programmed microcontroller chip
  • 1 × SMD electrolytic capacitor
  • 4 × SMD high-frequency capacitors
  • Total: 88 components | 202 solder joints

Who Is This Kit For?

This kit is ideal for electronics enthusiasts who want to practice SMD soldering, study circuit design, or build an eye-catching display project. Please note: Basic circuit assembly experience is required. Read all instructions carefully before beginning. While all components are guaranteed to be in perfect condition at the time of dispatch, successful assembly depends on the builder's soldering skills and experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to program the microcontroller for the dot matrix kit to work?

A: No programming is needed to use the default display mode. The included microcontroller comes pre-programmed with a countdown sequence (9–0) and scrolling lighting effects. If you want to display custom content, simply connect your control signal to the JP1 interface instead of soldering in the pre-programmed chip.

Q: What skill level is required to assemble this SMD soldering practice kit?

A: This kit is designed for electronics enthusiasts with some prior circuit assembly and SMD soldering experience. Beginners are welcome to try, but should read the full instructions carefully and ideally have some familiarity with a soldering iron before starting. Successful assembly is not guaranteed for those without any prior soldering experience.

Q: Can I use this dot matrix display kit for my own custom projects?

A: Yes! The kit includes a JP1 control interface that allows you to bypass the pre-programmed microcontroller and feed your own control signals to display any custom character or pattern you wish, making it highly versatile for DIY electronics projects.
